The ability of individuals to profoundly communicate has been substantially diminished in our current cultural climate. Through this body of work I offer situations that serve as a catalyst for uninhibited dialogue. These figures invite viewers to bring an essence of their experiences to a mundane narrative. For some, it’s a recollection of a moment, or a reflection on human interaction–the quotidian facilitates personal and social introspection. Through human figure, I create an extensive link between object and viewer–a vessel for memories and for the transcendence of object to critical and meaningful communication. I suggest that one can have a profound conversation around the idea of sweeping if encouraged to go deeper. The mundane conversation comes first. It is easy to digest, but it is the precursor of the ability to have generative conversations around more salient issues. By pushing people to talk about things in many different ways, and on a significant level, we can elevate culture’s ability to engage with one another. When we engage with people in real critical conversations, there is more opportunity to generate respectful dialogue. Initiating this civil exchange is important given the circumstances we find ourselves in daily.
